What Is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a drug and surgery free, hands-on system of health care that respects the body’s ability to heal itself. When’s the last time you directly told that cut or scrape on your arm to form a scab and heal? Your body has the ability and know-how to heal itself.
Doctors of Chiropractic adjust the spine with gentle, manual thrusts to move the spinal vertebrae back into their proper positions. A chiropractor will sometimes also adjust the joints of the neck, arms, and legs. Spinal adjustments may relieve a spectrum of ailments such as herniated discs, headaches, certain types of migraines, numbness and tingling in the arms/hands/legs, carpal tunnel syndrome, and sciatica to name a few.
If your lower back has bothered you, you are not alone. Eight out of ten adults will experience low back problems at some time in their lives. Most symptoms of low back pain are blamed on poor muscle tone in the back, muscle tension, spasms, ligament or muscle tears, and joint problems.
People in today’s society have realized that the best way to stay healthy is to avoid illness in the first place. They are realizing that wellness comes from within, and that the best way to avoid illness and discomfort is to be “health conscious” in their daily lifestyles. In order to accomplish this, we must first understand what it is we need to do to get well, and stay well.
The simple answer is that we need to adopt lifestyle behaviors that promote health – as opposed to those that lead to sickness. No drug can fix our poor diet, or remove the toxins from the processed food we eat. There is no drug that can undo our sedentary habits, or poor fitness – the answer is in our lifestyle choices. One major lifestyle choice we can adopt is to receive regular chiropractic adjustments, often called maintenance or wellness chiropractic care. This is similar to your regular dental appointments; we don’t think twice about making sure our teeth will last us a lifetime. Taking care of your spine should be no different.
